THE NETWORK OF PARKING FOR COMMERCIAL TRANSPORT: THE STATE AND THE PROSPECTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT

Nataliia Katrushenko Oleksandr Dobrovolskiy

Abstract

The high level of transport safety is important for the development of the country's economy today. International road transport provides a significant share for the functioning of the entire foreign economic activity of the country. Therefore, the increasing level of safety of international road transport is an important issue and it requires attention. The level of safety of international road transportation is affected by the quality of rest of the drivers who perform such transportation. The work of commercial transport drivers is monotonous, so it can cause a lulling effect even under the most ideal and comfortable conditions. Sharing their experience, international drivers claim: "as if someone is singing a lullaby", "you don't notice when sleep comes." In conditions of fatigue, this effect only increases. Uncontrolled closing of the eyes by the driver for just a few seconds often leads to fatal consequences. After the driver becomes aware of his condition, a quick and inadequate response follows, which in most cases leads to traffic accidents, the consequences of which are: the injury/death of the driver; damage/loss of the vehicle; damage/loss of cargo being transported; the injury/death of other road users; environmental pollution and poisoning of people in case of the transportation of dangerous goods, etc. To ensure high-quality rest of the drivers of commercial transport and, accordingly, the high level of safety of international road transport in general, there is a need to develop such an element of transport infrastructure as parking and the rest areas for commercial transport. It is important that drivers do not simply stick to the assigned daily and weekly rest periods but actually rest properly within these periods. During the rest period, drivers should not worry about such issues as: their own safety, the preservation of the vehicle in an intact condition, and the safety of the cargo. The issue of providing drivers with an access to the services, which ensures regular human activities within daily or weekly rest periods is equally important
