MODERN ASPECTS OF CARTOGRAPHIC SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The technological capabilities of mankind today have led to the fact that electronic maps have become an integral part of the lives of many people, paper maps, which have their own advantages, have not lost their relevance. The article substantiates the relevance of the chosen topic and achieves the goal of determining the relevance of using paper maps for cartographic support and cartographic research. The following tasks are solved: the common and negative features of paper and electronic maps are analyzed; the main advantages and disadvantages of electronic and paper maps are analyzed; the possibilities of electronic and paper maps for cartographic research and cartographic support are determined; the conditions for using cartographic modeling are determined and its components are noted; the role and relevance of paper maps in modern cartography are determined. Paper maps are more convenient for a number of tasks. The article establishes that despite the development of technology and the availability of electronic maps, paper maps, due to their reliability, visual clarity and cultural value, continue to be an important tool for solving a number of tasks. It is noted that the disadvantages of paper maps are opposite to the advantages of electronic ones. In the production of paper maps, paint, varnish and other substances hazardous to the human body are used, which are not present in electronic ones. However, the production of the components of technical means for visualizing electronic maps is also such that it disrupts the ecological balance. The key role of the cartographic research method for obtaining cartographic information for its further use in cartographic modeling is noted. The need to resort to cartographic modeling to obtain digital models based on data from cartographic sources, digital and analog cartographic models, and data obtained during cartographic research is noted. It has been established that due to the lack of cartographic support, including for cartographic modeling, paper maps of different printing periods represent historical, cultural, and informational value as a universal cartographic source. Modern achievements in cartography allow us to improve the cartographic research method, where paper maps play a key role, and therefore contribute to the further development of the scientific component of this direction
